A spa day in Bucharest: how to plan a day of pampering

28 October 2026

A day at the spa in Bucharest is more than a massage squeezed between two meetings. It is a few hours with nothing to sort out, when your body and mind finally get time to slow down. To make it feel that way, the day is worth a little planning: how much time to set aside, what kind of spa to choose, what to do before and after, and what to bring. Below you will find the steps, in the order you will go through them.

How much time you need for a spa day

The phrase “a spa day” sounds like eight hours of treatments, but in practice that is not what you want. Your body needs breaks between treatments, and after a long massage your energy naturally drops. A good spa day usually means a morning or an afternoon at the spa, with the rest of the day free and quiet.

To know what to block in your calendar, count it like this: the length of the ritual you choose, plus 15 minutes on arrival for tea and a short talk with your therapist, plus 15 to 20 minutes at the end, so you can get up without rushing. A two-hour package takes almost three hours in practice. A four-and-a-half-hour package fills your whole morning or your whole afternoon. If you can, keep the rest of the day clear. The best part of a spa day is how you feel afterwards, and that feeling only lasts if you do not jump straight into a meeting or into traffic.

A spa with a pool or a treatment spa: what kind of day you want

In Bucharest there are two kinds of places people call a “spa”, and the day looks very different in each.

The first kind are large wellness centres with pools, saunas and relaxation areas. You pay for access, move between the areas on your own and stay as long as you like. They suit you if you love water, if you go with a bigger group or if you want to alternate saunas. The downside shows at weekends, when they get crowded and quiet is hard to find.

The second kind are treatment spas, where every hour is a treatment given by a therapist, in a room of your own. You do not swim or go through saunas here, but you get constant attention: massage, hot stones, care for your face, scalp and feet. Bali Temple belongs to the second kind, with rituals inspired by Balinese tradition. If you want to be looked after rather than find your own way between areas, this is the kind of day for you. Nothing stops you from combining them: a ritual on one Saturday and a pool visit on another weekend.

How to choose the right package for your day

The easiest way is to choose by how you want to feel at the end; the package name matters less. A few common situations:

You want to switch off after a hard week, but you only have an afternoon. A ritual of an hour and a half, with a relaxing massage and reflexology, is enough to leave with lower shoulders and a clear head. With us, that is Bali Temple Signature.

You want relaxation and a rested face. Look for a package of about two hours that adds a facial after the massage and volcanic stones, such as The Balinese Experience. If you would rather have smooth skin all over, Bali Jegeg replaces the facial with a body scrub.

You want a generous three-hour ritual. This is where the packages that add a scalp massage and a Hopi Ear Candle treatment come in, such as Om Swastiastu, or the one built around a long 90-minute massage, Kali Treatment.

You truly want half a day. That is what Holistic Spa is for, the longest spa package in Bucharest we offer: four and a half hours that go through shiatsu, hot stones, relaxing massage, reflexology, scalp massage, a facial and Hopi Candle.

You want to go with your partner. There is a separate package for couples, in the same room, with a jacuzzi at the end. We described it in detail in our article about the spa package for two.

One tip: if this is your first spa day, do not go straight for the longest ritual. A two-hour package shows you what pressure you like and how comfortable you are lying down for a long time. Next time you will know exactly what to ask for.

When to book: the day, the time and how far ahead

The day of the week matters more than it seems. On weekdays it is easier to find free slots at the times you want, and the trip to the spa is often calmer. Weekends are more convenient if you work, but slots fill up quickly, especially on Saturdays.

Choose the time based on how you want the rest of the day to look. A morning ritual leaves your afternoon free and makes you live it more calmly. A late-afternoon one leads perfectly into a quiet evening at home and a deep sleep. Avoid booking your spa day right after a hard workout or before an important meeting, because you lose exactly the state you came for.

For longer packages, book one or two weeks ahead. In December, around the holidays and on weekends with special occasions, book even earlier. When you book, mention any health condition, recent injury or sensitive area, so your therapist can adapt the pressure and techniques.

How the day unfolds, from morning to evening

Before. Eat something light one or two hours before, not on an empty stomach and not after a heavy meal. Drink water that morning and skip alcohol the evening before. Leave home with time to spare, so you arrive 10 to 15 minutes early. If you arrive rushed and stressed about parking, you need half the ritual just to calm down.

During the ritual. The day starts with tea and a few simple questions: what pressure you prefer, where you feel tension, whether there are areas your therapist should avoid. Then the treatments follow one another, with short breaks. You can ask at any time for more or less pressure, warmer or cooler. You do not have to talk; silence is perfectly normal.

After. Get up slowly, drink water and stay a few more minutes before you leave. For the rest of the day choose a warm, light meal, a short walk, a book, an early night. Leave the gym for the next day. We gathered all these details in our guide on what to do before and after a massage.

What to bring and what you will find at the spa

For a treatment spa day you need very little. At the spa you will find everything the ritual needs: towels, oils, the face and scalp products, the welcome tea. You only need to think about your own comfort before and after.

Wear loose clothes that are easy to take off and put back on. Leave your jewellery at home or take it off before you start. If the package includes a facial, come without make-up or with very little, and bring your lens solution if you wear contact lenses. If it includes a scalp massage, bring a hair tie and do not book the hairdresser or a smart evening out right after: the oil stays in your hair for a few hours and does it good. Put your phone on silent and forget it in your bag until the end.

A spa day alone, with a friend or with your mother

Alone is the way you switch off best. There is nobody to wait for, nothing to talk about, and the pace is only yours. Many people only realise how tired they were this way.

With a friend or your mother, the day also becomes time spent together. Ask when you book whether you can be scheduled in parallel, so you start and finish at the same time and then go for a coffee or a meal together. It is a lovely way to mark a birthday, an achievement or simply a reunion.

If you want to surprise someone, the packages can also be given as a gift. The recipient chooses the day, so you do not have to guess when they are free.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a spa day if I have never had a massage before?
Yes. Choose a package of one or two hours and say at the start that it is your first time. Your therapist will explain every step and start with gentle pressure, which you adjust together.

What if I have a health condition or I am on treatment?
Mention it when you book and when you arrive. For heart, circulatory or skin conditions, or after recent surgery, ask your doctor first whether massage and heat treatments are right for you.

How often can I have a spa day?
There is no fixed rule. Many people have a long ritual once a month or at the change of seasons, with a regular one-hour massage in between. Your body will tell you when you need it again.
